Our Mission
Who We Are....
Blackhawk Lacrosse is a non-profit organization developed to promote the growth of the sport of lacrosse in Hanover County, Virginia and its surrounding community.
Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for your child to learn the game of lacrosse. At the core of our programs, we will teach appropriate skills and rules while stressing a positive atmosphere among the athletes to create a culture where kids love to play the game.
Blackhawk Lacrosse is governed by a board of directors (Hanover County Lacrosse Club) and most coaches are volunteers. The success and growth of our programs depend heavily on the strong spirit of all our volunteers and their love for the game.
How We've Grown...
The Hanover County Lacrosse Club was founded in 2001. In the first season, the club helped to organize two middle school teams for boys. Boys from Oak Knoll, Stonewall Jackson and Chickahominy were pooled to form one team and there was enough interest from Liberty Middle school to form a second team.
Since the 2001 season, the Hanover County Lacrosse Club has added many teams for boys and girls at all levels. In the 2006 season, we launched the Blackhawk lacrosse program for youth boys and in 2008 the Ladyhawk lacrosse program for girls was created. As our numbers increase, we continue to grow our programs to meet the needs of our youth.
Where We're Headed...
As HLC continues to grow, we have expanded to provide youth lacrosse to all four seasons of the calendar, both a Winter and Fall Girls High School 7v7 League, and a Lil Laxhawks Program for Pre-K and K boys and girls to learn the game using mini lacrosse sticks and softer low impact lacrosse balls. Our footprint has grown to include players from surrounding areas outside Hanover, including Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Stafford, and Frederickburg.
Moving forward, HLC will continue to support the growth and preservation of the lacrosse community in Central Virginia, through regional tournaments and playdays both with local clubs and neighboring areas such as Hampton Roads; engagement in educating schools, parents and players about the game of lacrosse through teaching the game in PE classes, hosting new player clinics, and developing parents and former players into coaches; and continuing to give back to Blackhawk players through our annual High School Senior Scholarship. HLC continues to prepare for a bright future ahead for the program and the sport of lacrosse.
What People are saying about Blackhawk Lacrosse
As our first experience with Lacrosse both coaches did an outstanding job teaching skills - being patient - and organizing the practices and games. A great first experience and my daughter definitely wants to come back and play again.
When entering this lax season - my daughter was not certain that she wanted to continue this sport. Thanks to coaches she plans to try out for the school team next year - as her love for the sport has returned. Their coaching was helpful and motivating. They created a positive team environment and the team communication was outstanding. Thank you!
My son has played for 2 seasons and we couldn't be happier with our sons development and his ability to work with all the players. Seeing how other coaches from opposing teams behaved truly made me grateful for the Blackhawk Coach's professionalism and positive attitude.
